VanDyke Software VShell 3.0 server saves critical time for system administrators with new configuration and automation features.

The 3.0 release of the VShell Secure Shell server adds new automation triggers, SCP support, XML configuration import and export, and support for 64-bit Microsoft Windows 2003.
Albuquerque, N.M. (March 20, 2008) - For time-strapped network administra-tors working to secure their networks, the VShell 3.0 server from VanDyke Software, Inc. offers new ways to automate routine administrative tasks with expanded triggers and configuration options.
VShell 3.0 also introduces built-in SCP support, allowing administrators to grant users limited file transfer access to a server or to schedule unattended file transfers. VShell's built-in SCP implementation honors settings for logging, access control lists (ACLs), and VShell's virtual root directories.
With the configuration import/export capability in the Windows version, existing server configurations can be backed-up in XML format and then cloned, edited, or moved to other machines. Other new features include a native 64-bit version of VShell providing full support for public-key-only authentication on Windows XP x64 machines, and support for Windows Vista.
The VShell Secure Shell server replaces Telnet and FTP for secure network administration and end-user access on Windows and UNIX platforms. Precision control over privileges, the ability to fine-tune your Secure Shell environment, and a wide selection of strong authentication methods give you a flexible solution that grows with your evolving security policies.
VanDyke Software also develops client applications for use with VShell and other Secure Shell servers.

- Windows: The "Add" button on the VShell Control Panel SFTP page was disabled unless an existing SFTP root was selected.
- Windows: SCP file transfer uploads may have become corrupted if an existing file was being overwritten by a file that was smaller in size.
- Windows: VShell Control Panel could crash on startup if the Access Control registry key became corrupted.
- Windows: VShell Control Panel was slow to start in some environments.

Use the VanDyke ClientPack command-line utilities to securely automate your routine file transfer, shell, and public key administration tasks on a variety of Windows, Linux, and UNIX platforms.

The maximum 2048 bits length of DSA keys under SSH2 provides more secure encryption. For SSH1 servers, DES, 3DES, RC4, and Blowfish are supported.
Windows and UNIX platform support: The VanDyke ClientPack is available for Windows 2000, XP, 2003, and Vista, Red Hat Enterprise v2.1 and v3, Red Hat Linux 7.x, 8.x, and 9.x (Intel x86), Solaris 8 (SPARC), FreeBSD 5.4, 5.3, and 4.8 (Intel x86), HP-UX 11, Mac OS X 10.2, and AIX 5.3.
Secure Shell: Secure Shell encrypted logon and session data, including support for the following:
- vsh port forwarding secures TCP/IP data
- X11 forwarding
- FIPS Mode uses a validated cryptographic library and only allows approved algorithms
File transfer utilities: vcp and vsftp command-line utilities secure file transfers using SFTP.

Albuquerque, N.M. (August 21, 2008) -- For organizations that need to close security holes created by the use of standard FTP, the VShell 3.5 server from VanDyke Software, Inc. now offers three new editions with FTP over SSL support.
VShell 3.5 also improves configurability and expands logging options. Support for W3C extended log file format lets system administrators use third party log tools to analyze VShell activity. In addition, all log messages can be sent to a remote syslog or syslog ng server, or optionally to the Windows Event Log.
The larger VShell Control Panel has an updated layout for the Virtual Roots page, with sortable columns on the Virtual Roots, User Database, and RunAs Commands pages. A VShell Control Panel User Database page gives system administrators the ability to configureVShell-specific users in the new Internal User Database, with VShell-defined users separate from Windows System accounts.

FTP over SSL and a Control Panel makeover are two of the exciting new changes in VShell 3.5.
Three New Editions of VShell with FTP over SSL (FTPS) Support:
- VShell with FTPS is now available in Administrator, Workgroup, and Enterprise Editions.
- Secure file transfer using the FTP protocol in which all data sent or received is protected by SSL/TLS based encryption.
- The FTPS module honors existing VShell settings for Virtual Roots, Access Control Lists, Connection Filters, Triggers, Deny Host, Logging, and User Database.
Logging:
- New W3C extended log file format allows the use of third party log tools to analyze VShell activity.

VShell Service Control: Start and stop the VShell SSH2 and VShell FTPS services from the VShell Control Panel Common page.
