dont worry about worms its a microsoft lie/trick, back up your data and dont rely on AV its a worthless scam you get worm you will know it w/o AV guarantee that, check out wireshark to see if they snd mails from your connection etc AV only work on lame malware or IF they have definition update (read 3 weeks-2 years) before they find out about exploit..

AV wont save you nope sure wont, no one writes a virus or worm now its all about trojan and spam

you can leave this limit maxed. It has nothing to do with "ports" as some seem to be thinking. The patch only raises the number of simultaneous incomplete outbound TCP connection attempts Windows will allow before it starts queueing them (stopping the program from sending) for processing later. This is an attempt to try to keep "your" infected computer from sending out.

People are confusing this with ports that one would scan to access your computer or attack it in some way. Nothing could be further from the truth. You are not even "opening" anything really. Just raising a limit. Not to mention these connection attempts are half open or half duplex which means "outbound" only. And failed at that.

So don't worry about it and max it out once and be done with it. Setting the limit back to 10 isnt protecting you from anything unless you "have" a virus/worm already. That is why you have to raise it before you scan for socks, if not it thinks the scanner is a worm/virus when you run them.
