[How To] Obtain Voice Chat In Windows Vista
This is the new and improved tutorial for obtaining voice chat with Windows Vista. This new version of the tutorial is important since the old tutorial was out of date and some changes have been made since the original was posted.

1) Make sure you have the latest Yahoo! Messenger v8.1 (or v9.0 beta) build installed (currently v8.1.0.421) from here

2) Exit Yahoo! Messenger completely (tray icon and all) and download the TrueSpeech codec from

and save it to the desktop (this step is VERY important, or else it may not work, so do not hit the Run button when prompted. Save it to the desktop).

3) Right click on the downloaded TrueSpeech codec, and select Run as Administrator and install it.

4) Reboot the computer (this step is optional, but it can help).

5) Right click on the Yahoo! Messenger desktop icon, and go to Properties > Compatibility tab, then check the box "Run this program as an administrator" then hit Apply, then Ok.

6) Start up Yahoo! Messenger, go to a chat room, and attempt to gain voice chat. If the Talk button turns green, SUCCESS!!!!

NOTE #1: You need Yahoo! Messenger v8.1.0.416 and above for this to work correctly!!!!!
NOTE #2: You cannot currently obtain voice chat in any 3rd party chat clients (YahELite, Y!mLite, Yazak, etc).
NOTE #3: It seems that Windows Vista Home Basic is unable to obtain voice chat with the codec installed (may or may not work). The reason why this is is unknown at the current time.

NOTE:Pls scan your download file b4 u stall

u use xp if u dont have voice in yahoo delete yahoo and install again also u can try download ycabby is already post the link by [Only registered users can see links. ] install and must solve the problem in yahelite

i just purchased a laptop and it has vista but when i enter yahoo chat rooms its telling me i need an codec
