A CAR hit a motorcycle killing its rider here on Saturday and police are probing whether a truck carrying boulders caused the accident. Police said the motorcycle rider was dragged with the car, a Maruti Swift, for 300m.
The car driver fled the spot but was arrested later. Police gave the name of the motorcycle rider as Lal Mohan Singh and that of the car driver as Avnish Yadav, working for a factory owner. Singh was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. The accident occurred at 10.45 p. m. at a T-shape crossing linking sectors 22, 23 and 54. The car driver told police he lost control after a boulder on a truck moving ahead of his car came loose and fell on his car. Asked why he did not stop after hitting the motorcycle, Yadav told police he was not aware the rider was stuck with the car. He said he stepped on the gas to nab the dumper driver. Police said they were verifying his claims and, if found true, a ban on trucks carrying building materials uncovered would be enforced strictly. Police have banned vehicles carrying building materials that are not covered on Noida's roads. Drivers have been asked to cover the material with polythene or other sheet so sand and dust do not fly or boulders and stones do not fall off, posing a risk to other motorists. Residents said had the order been implemented properly the accident would not have occurred. But some eyewitnesses said had the car driver stopped and carried Singh to hospital, he could have survived. Singh, a resident of Shramik Vihar in Sector 66 here, ran a fridge and air-conditioner repair shop in Sector 22. He was going to his shop when the accident took place, while the car driver was going to his owner's factory. Police said Singh, 26, was unmarried and lived with his brothers |
